Puella Magi Madoka Magica (often shortened to Madoka Magica) is an anime known for it's dark take on the magical girl genre. It also happens to be one of my favorite shows! I first watched this show when I was 13 years old and it has stuck with me ever since. I owe this show a lot, while it isn't my all time favorite anymore (another pink sapphic lesbian came to dethrone them, hi Utena LMFAO) it still is incredibly INCREDIBLY dear to me.

What is Madoka Magica about?

Madoka Magica is about a girl named Madoka Kaname (what a surprise!!!) who is a very average normal teenage girl. She and her best friend Sayaka however get wrapped up in the world of being a magical girl after the two find a strange creature named "Kyubey" whilst in a mysterious witches lair. After one of the older kids in their school, Mami, helps them out of the situation, the two are shown the truth of their world. They see that their world's evil's are brought upon by the aformentioned "witches", who essentially do nothing but bring about havoc and destruction. Magical girls are the only ones able to fight off these forces. In fact, it's what they do in exchange for a wish of anything they desire. Fortune and fame? Healing for your sick family? Even just a simple delicious cake. All of these you could recieve if you sign the dotted line...and just don't think too hard about the rest!

Unsurprisingly there's a lot more nuance than that, but explaining the rest would require me to talk about spoilers, so keep that in mind while navigating this shrine!
