Utena Tenjou

Oh Utena…where do I even begin with Utena. I have never seen myself in a character as much as I have with her, her struggles with identity whether it be through her initiative in life, gender, or the very ideals she’s been living up to the whole story just, hit incredibly close to home for me. I also find her to be an absolute beacon of hope and change that I aspire to be like one day. I also find her development and especially her reaction to traumatic circumstances incredibly true to my own experiences. I really adore them so so much….she means the world to me!!!

Rapunzel

Tangled is my favorite disney princess movie and I’ve been associated with Rapunzel via family influence for years. I also just relate to her development and struggles a Ton. She’s also just really similar to me personality wise LOL. We got whimsical silly creature going out into the real world for the first time. She’s also a creative masochist like me so YIPEE! AND SHE GOT MY HAIRCUT!!!

Ena Shinonome

While initially I found myself drawn to Kanade when getting into Project Sekai, it was Ena’s story that absolutely captivated me and made me feel so seen, especially as someone pursuing an artistic career. Her development as she gains true confidence in her abilities, seek actual improvement instead of just chasing after the approval of others and learns to love making art again is just. So. So Real. She is so special to me. I genuinely cried reading Ena6 LOL. Even if you don’t like gacha games (which. Fair) please watch the pjsekai stories on youtube! They’re genuinely so well written its insane and Ena’s not the only one :3

Natalie Goodman

Oh my lord. Natalie truly changed something in me when I watched Next to Normal for the first time man. While our circumstances aren’t exactly 1 to 1 (I mean I thankfully don’t have a Dead Brother im constantly trying to live up to), her parentification due to Diana’s inability to cope with her Bipolar disorder is just…SO REAL!!! She hits extremely home for me and I feel those who have had mentally ill family members/unstable family dynamics in general could Relate. I need to write a big thing about how important N2N is to me eventually but Natalie is just so. so. Real. She gets the cptsd rep badge of HONOR

Wanda Pierce

WANDA!!! The first of unfortunately many bojack characters on this list. Girl help. LET ME OUT. Thankfully I was not in a coma for 20 years however as someone who is autistic, Wanda’s out-of-touchness with the current world evokes a similar experience to me. I honestly see a lot of my autistic related struggles in her. Her sense of humor, general way of being and her positive attitude remind me of myself a lot. She’s also just so very silly and I am MAD FOREVER WE NEVER GOT MORE OF HER PAST SEASON 2!!! If there is ever a bojack continuation they MUST show me more of her for I love her so much… Also she's a bird so that's a pretty obvious association as well LOL

Princess Carolyn

While I think in Wanda I see more surface level/observable traits about myself, in PC I see conflicts that are more deep-set in me. Her relationship with work is so, so EURUGHUGHU. She. Yeah. I’ve related to her more and more especially as I’ve gotten older, her natural instinct to care for others before herself and how that ties into her workaholicism is so. Real. Man. Literally all of her episodes are some of my favorites in the entire show. She means the world to me…I lauv yew PC…

Tenna

Similar to Wanda I see a lot of my autistic experiences in Tenna. The abandonment issues and goofy ass behavior certainly doesn’t help my case either LMFAO. I’ve always used creative media to process and disconnect from The Horrors tm so I understand Tenna’s dillema so freaking bad. Me when I need to chose the comfort of the known vs the horrors of the unknown and potiential of being forgotten. Also he goes through friendship divorce a blanki staple so he was predestined to be one of my blorbos truthfully.
